More Awards won for our Clients Using Techrete Products
November 17, 2017
It has been a busy week for our clients winning awards for their designs built using our reconstructed concrete cladding on their facades. Acme were awarded the British Precast Award for Creativity in Concrete for their work, in the main, on Victoria Gate. This project had an unusual diagrid facade was was constructed using Techrete panels. The concrete panels on the diagrid were an interesting product as they fully utilised the adaptability of precast concrete. They were made in a two stage cast, whereby the ribs were cast first with a polished finish. These were then placed back into the mould and the rest of the concrete mix was poured creating the two tones you see on the panels. The polished ribs were carefully protected and the rest of the panel was then acid etched. The shape and textures of the panel give an illusion of light and shade. There were also no vertical joints on this diagrid and the jointing was cleverly hidden by this design element and by the use of dusted jointing. The overall impression of the facade is one of power and elegance whilst the design manages to acknowledge the local history of the Victorian arcades.
Highly commended at the Concrete Society Awards were PCE for their work on Broadmoor Hospital and the Carey Group for their work on the V & A Museum of Design, Dundee. For more information on these projects, check our downloads section of our website and the links below.
